Set Up Prerequisites for a Course or Learning Path

The Learning solution lets you set Courses and Learning Paths as prerequisites for other training material (Courses and Learning Paths) to ensure learners have the proper knowledge to complete their training.

Administrators can set the prerequisites for a Course or Learning Path. Once the prerequisites have been set, learners must complete them before the actual Course or Learning Path they want to take.

Add Prerequisites to a Course or Learning Path

Navigation: UKG Learning > Academy Workspace > Training Admin > Configuration > Prerequisites

1. Select the Courses or Learning Paths tab.
2. Locate the training to which you want to add prerequisites. Use the search bar if needed.
3. Select +Add. You are redirected to the Manage Course or Manage Learning Path page, as appropriate, under the Prerequisites tab.
4. Select the Courses and/or the Learning Paths you want to add as prerequisites by:
   1. Select the button for Coures or Learning Paths, depending on which you want to assign as a prerequisite.
   2. Search for the training and select the + (plus) icon associated with its name.
5. Select Submit when finished.

When the learner tries to take this training, the steps are unavailable until the prerequisites are completed.

If the training has multiple prerequisites, the learner should select the arrow icon to see all of them:

An error page may appear if the learner cannot access the course's category. When setting up prerequisites, it is important to ensure learners can access all items.

For prerequisite learning paths to be successfully assigned to users, it is essential that the Assign Prerequisites checkbox is selected. This step ensures that the appropriate learning paths are linked to the users as intended.

If you receive a message indicating that a prerequisite course must be completed before starting this course, but no prerequisites have been configured, please check if the course is included in a Learning Path with a mandatory step sequence. If so, you will need to complete the preceding courses in the sequence before gaining access to this course.
