Use Annotations in Courses and Learning Paths

Annotations can help you highlight content in learning material for future reference. This can be done using highlights and notes in document-type lectures, and clips in video-type lectures.

To see whether a lecture allows annotations, go to your Course or Learning Path as usual. If the lecture you are on allows annotations, you will see the annotations option on the left of the screen.

Create a New Highlight

  1. Select the pen symbol on the top right of the document. If this is already selected, it will have a white border around it.

  2. With Add Highlight selected, select the text you want to highlight. You can then let go and see your annotations on the left sidebar. The highlighted text will also show up in the document itself.

Create a New Note

Notes give you the opportunity to add extra context to the document.

  1. Select the message icon on the top-right of the document. If the option is already selected, it will show with a white border around it.
  2. Within the article, select the location you want to place a stamp with your note.
  3. At the Add a note field, enter your note.
  4. Select the upload icon.
  5. You can now find your note on the left side and can find a stamp with the note in the document.
  6. You can see and reply to notes by selecting the stamp.

Create a New Clip

If the lecture is an uploaded video, you can select a small part of the video to save as a clip. 

Important:
Clips only work for integrated and uploaded videos, not for linked videos through third-party sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.

  1. Open the course or learning path and navigate to the lecture that is an uploaded video.
  2. Go to the part of the video where you want to start the clip and select the Plus button. Keep the video playing and then select the Stop button to create the clip.
  3. Enter your note in the text field.
  4. Select Save to save the clip.
  5. You can find your clips, as well as all public clips for this lecture, on the left side under the Annotations Panel.

Find Your Past Annotations

Navigation: UKG Pro Learning > Learner Workspace > Training > My Training

If you have made annotations, you will find the My Annotations feed under My Training. To see the annotations for a course or learning path, select its name.

 

Turn on Public Annotations (Admins and Training Admins)

By default, annotations are set to be private for the user. Academy Admins and others with the right permissions can turn on the option for learners to make their annotations public.

First, make sure that the Academy Wide option is set to allow annotations.

Navigation: UKG Learning > Academy Workspace > Settings > Training

  1. Under Courses, turn the toggle for Allow learners to make their annotations public on and verify this in the pop-up.
  2. Select the Save button to save the settings.
  3. After you have set the Academy option, you need to make sure that public annotations are allowed for the course itself. Go to the Course Management page and select Lectures > Lectures in the course panel.

  4. Make sure that Learners can make their annotations public is set to Allow.

Public Annotations (Learner)

If your Academy has the setting to share your annotations turned on, you can see the public annotations from other learners, as well as decide to share your own.

Annotations are private by default. Select Settings in the left sidebar to publish your annotations for other learners.

If you want to see public annotations from other learners, click on the filter icon and select which learners' annotations you would like to see.

After selecting the learners, you can see your own annotations and the selected public annotations in the left annotations panel.

Hide Avatar Annotations

If you want to hide the annotations and avatars on your document, go to the Settings in the left sidebar and toggle Hide all annotations.
