Overview
This article explains how progress works in a learning path when the Maintain progress setting is turned off and an admin manually marks a user as complete.
It clarifies what happens when new courses are added after that completion.
Use case scenario
Consider the following setup:
A learning path is configured not to maintain progress when new courses are added.
An admin manually marks a user as complete for:
The learning path
All associated courses
Later, new courses are added to the learning path.
Expected behavior
After new courses are added:
The user retains 100% completion for the learning path.
The newly added courses appear on the dashboard with an Enrolled status.
Why this happens
This behavior is expected and works as designed.
The Maintain progress setting applies only to users who complete the learning path through their own activity, such as finishing all required courses.
When an admin manually marks a user as complete, the system treats that completion as final.
For users marked complete by an admin:
The learning path remains 100% complete, even if new courses are added later.
Newly added courses appear as Enrolled because they were not part of the original completion action.
These new courses do not change the overall learning path completion status.
This approach ensures that administrative completions remain final, even if the learning path structure changes later.
