Overview
This article explains what happens when a user is automatically unassigned from a course because they no longer meet an Automated Rule’s criteria, but the course prerequisites remain assigned.
Scenario
A user is assigned a course and its prerequisites through an Automated Rule.
The user later no longer meets the rule’s criteria.
The system automatically unassigns the primary course based on the rule setting.
The prerequisite courses remain assigned to the user.
Why this happens
This behavior is expected and works as designed.
When a user no longer qualifies for a course under an Automated Rule, the system removes only the primary course assignment. It does not automatically remove associated prerequisite courses.
There is currently no mechanism to automatically unassign prerequisites when eligibility changes. As a result, prerequisite courses remain assigned unless they are removed manually.
What to do next
If you need to remove the prerequisite courses, unassign them separately.
