Geofencing helps ensure that Hourly Employees access required training only when they are physically at their assigned location. However, when large training sessions are held off-site, geofencing may temporarily prevent users from accessing their online training.
This article explains why this happens and how to provide temporary access while maintaining compliance.
Scenario
Your organization uses geofencing restrictions to limit training access based on physical location.
You schedule a large training class at an off-site location. Because the Employees’ physical location no longer matches the geofenced address, they cannot access their required training content.
You need a temporary solution that allows access during the off-site session without permanently removing compliance controls.
Why this happens
Geofencing enforces access based on a strict match between a user’s physical location (IP or address) and the assigned Unit location.
If the user attempts to access training from a location outside the approved geofence, the system blocks access.
This is expected behavior and is designed to support compliance requirements.
Recommended solution
To allow temporary off-site access, an administrator must temporarily adjust the geofencing configuration.
The most practical approach is to temporarily modify or disable the geofencing restriction for the affected Unit.
Temporarily disable geofencing for the Unit
This is the most direct way to grant immediate access to all users associated with the off-site training.
Navigate to the administrative settings that manage geofencing restrictions.
Locate the specific Unit conducting training off-site.
Temporarily disable or reverse the geofencing restriction for that Unit.
This allows users assigned to that Unit to access training content from the off-site location.
Important:
After the off-site training session is complete, re-enable the geofencing rule to restore the compliance restriction. Failing to restore the rule may allow unintended access outside the approved location.
Summary
Geofencing restrictions block access when users are outside their assigned location. For temporary off-site training, an administrator must adjust the geofencing configuration for the affected Unit.
Once training concludes, restore the original geofencing settings to maintain compliance.
