Lectures Open in a New Tab Regardless of Settings

Use case

When you add web-based lectures to a course, some lectures may open in a new browser tab even if the Open in new tab option is not selected.

Explanation

This behavior occurs when the lecture URL does not allow embedding in an iFrame.

Some external websites, such as Salesforce, block their pages from displaying inside another site’s frame for security and privacy reasons.

When a lecture links to a website that does not support embedding, Learning automatically opens the link in a new browser tab. This happens regardless of the Open in new tab setting.

If you link to external websites with these restrictions, the lecture will always open in a new tab — even if the setting in Learning is disabled.
