Embedded Videos and Audio in PowerPoint-Based Lectures

When you upload a PowerPoint presentation as a lecture in a course, embedded media — such as videos or slide-specific voiceovers — may not play during the presentation.

This behavior is expected.

Why this happens

Learning supports uploading and displaying PowerPoint slides. However, it does not support playback of:

  • Embedded video files

  • Slide-specific audio recordings (voiceovers)

When learners view the presentation in Learning, embedded multimedia elements do not function.

At this time, embedded audio or video within uploaded PowerPoint files is not supported.

Recommended workarounds

If your presentation includes important video or audio content, use one of the following options.

Option 1: Convert the presentation to a SCORM package

Convert your PowerPoint file into a SCORM-compliant package using an authoring tool.

SCORM packages:

  • Support embedded media playback

  • Provide a more interactive experience

  • Retain multimedia functionality

Upload the SCORM package as a course lecture to ensure full media support.

Option 2: Upload the video separately

If your PowerPoint includes video content, upload the video as a separate lecture.

You can add it as:

  • A Video lecture, or

  • A Web resource that links to an external video URL (for example, YouTube or Vimeo)

These options ensure learners can access and play the video content without interruption.

Summary

Embedded multimedia inside PowerPoint files does not play when the file is uploaded as a lecture in Learning.

To ensure audio and video content works as expected, convert the presentation to SCORM or upload multimedia files separately.
