As an administrator, you can enable the Competitions sidebar gadget for learners in their academy. To make the gadget available, you must first enable Activity Rings and allow learner competition.
Set up the Competitions sidebar gadget
Enable Activity Rings
Navigation: UKG Learning > Academy Workspace > Settings > Social
- In the Gamification settings, turn on the Activity Rings toggle.
- Select Save.
Allow learner competition
Navigation: UKG Learning > Social Workspace > Game Center > Activity Rings > Edit
- Select the Settings icon, then select Competitions.
- On the Competitions page, turn on the Allow learners to compete with each other toggle.
Enable the competitions sidebar gadget
Navigation: UKG Learning > Academy Workspace > Settings > Academy
- Select Sidebar.
- Turn on the Competitions sidebar gadget toggle.
- Select Save.

The Competitions sidebar gadget is available on the web application only. The Show on mobile app toggle is not available.

You can also configure visibility rules to limit the gadget to specific audiences in your organization.
Learner configuration
After the gadget is enabled at the academy level, learners can control its visibility.
Navigation: UKG Learning > Profile icon > Settings
- In the Sidebar section, select View sidebar.
- Locate the Competitions gadget and adjust visibility as needed.
Competitions sidebar gadget functionality
The gadget displays up to five active competitions in which the learner is enrolled. Completed competitions are not shown.
Competitions are sorted by end date. The competition ending soonest appears first, and competitions with the same end date are listed alphabetically.
Each competition includes:
- Competition title
- End date (based on the learner’s personal date format)
Select Go to competition to open the competition page.
Ranking views
The gadget includes two views: My ranking and Competition ranking.
The My ranking view displays:
- All competitors
- Each competitor's total points and current ranking
- Each competitor’s preferred name (if set) or legal name
- Profile image
The Competition ranking view displays:
- All competitors
- Total points and ranking for each competitor
- Preferred name (if set) or legal name
- Profile image
No active competitions
If the learner is not enrolled in any competitions, the gadget displays No active competitions.
Select Go to activity rings to open the Activity Rings overview page and start a competition.
Note:
Invited participants must accept the invitation before they appear in the gadget.
