Use the Next and Back buttons in a learning path

When you take training in UKG Learning, the Next and Back buttons help you move through the steps in a course. When a course is part of a learning path, these buttons appear based on your location within the course.

Use this article to understand when the Next and Back buttons are available and how to continue through a learning path.

Understand how navigation works

Courses and learning paths have different structures.

A course is a step-by-step learning experience. A course can include items such as lectures, exams, events, polls, and on-the-job training items.

A learning path is a collection of courses. Each course in the learning path contains its own steps, which you complete as part of the overall learning path.

The Next and Back buttons help you move between steps within a course. They do not move you between courses in a learning path.

When the Next button is available

The Next button is available when another step follows your current step in the same course.

For example, Next may be available when you are completing:

  • A lecture
  • An exam
  • An event
  • A poll
  • An on-the-job training item

Select Next to move to the next step in the course.

For example, if a course contains five steps, Next is available for the first four steps. At the final step, Next is not available because there are no additional steps in that course.

When the Back button is available

The Back button is available when a previous step exists in the same course.

Select Back to move to the previous step in the course.

For example, if a course contains five steps, Back is available beginning with the second step. At the first step, Back is not available because there is no previous step in that course.

Navigate within a learning path

When you access a course from a learning path, Next and Back continue to move you between steps in your current course:

  • Next moves you to the next step in the same course.
  • Back moves you to the previous step in the same course.
  • At the final step of a course, return to the learning path to continue to the next course.
  • At the first step of a course, return to the learning path to access a previous course.

For example, a learning path includes the following courses:

Course A

  • Lecture 1
  • Lecture 2
  • Exam

Course B

  • Lecture 1
  • Lecture 2

In Course A:

  • At Lecture 1, Next may be available.
  • At Lecture 2, Next and Back may be available.
  • At the Exam, Back may be available.

After you complete the Exam in Course A, return to the learning path and select Course B to continue.

In Course B:

  • At Lecture 1, Next may be available.
  • At Lecture 2, Back may be available.

Continue through the learning path

After you complete the final step in a course, return to the learning path and select the next available course.

The Next and Back buttons move you between steps within your current course. To move between courses, return to the learning path and select the course you want to continue.
